We call this one “The Big Boy”. Power and Finesse, the Easton Zin slogan, describes this wine to a T. Flavors are full, rich, smooth, and gutsy. The wine has huge brambly blackberry fruit, big cedar, spice box aromas and flavors. It has a smooth creamy finish from aging in François Frères and Taransaud French oak barrels (30% new).
The vines are head-trained and unirrigated. The vineyard is rigorously suckered for proper cluster spacing and sun exposure to get full flavor development. In 2008 the quality of the fruit was high with small clusters. As always with Easton Zin, there is no residual sugar and good acidity.
