After establishing Terre Rouge in Amador County in the late 80's, we started the EASTON label in 1991 for wines that are not Rhône varietals. Amador County is known for its very old vine Zinfandel, some dating back to the 1860's, and the EASTON portfolio focuses primarily on Zin. We also make small lots of Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc under this label. Just like with our Terre Rouge wines, all Easton wines are aged in French oak and further bottle aged under our "élevage" program until ready to drink.

Our 2013 EASTON Estate Zinfandel flavors are full, rich, smooth, and gutsy. We call this Zin the "Big Boy", as this wine is the biggest style of Zin we make. The wine has huge brambly blackberry fruit, big cedar, spice box aromas and flavors. It has a smooth creamy finish from aging in François Frères and Taransaud barrels (1/3 new).

The Rinaldi Vineyard in Fiddletown dates back to 1865, and is one of the oldest in the state. We do not blend this wine with other Zinfandels in our cellar. EASTON Fiddletown Zinfandel, Old Vine is always 100% Zinfandel from the Rinaldi Vineyard. We approach making the wine from this vineyard in much the same way a good winemaker would approach a grand cru vineyard in Burgundy. We want to reveal what the fruit has to offer each year in all of its purity, not obscure it.

This is our most elegant Zinfandel, made from organic grapes grown at 2000' in Fiddletown. Perfect for backyard BBQs and picnics.
It shows great spicy aromatics, delicious boysenberry fruit flavors, and a fascinating mineral laden finish from the vineyards schist-laden hillside.
Why "E"? "E" stands for: EASTON, ecological techniques, estate-grown, elevation, and exquisite.

"This epitomizes fine Sierra Foothills Zinfandel, offering vibrant, briary raspberry, smoked pepper and wild sweet anise flavors that stretch out on the zesty finish. Drink now through 2023."

"A velvety texture and extremely concentrated black-fruit flavors make this full-bodied wine delicious to savor. It has beautiful big tannins that are well integrated, luxurious blackberry, sage and cedar flavors, plus great length on the finish."
This is a new style of Amador County Zinfandel for us that is made in an older historic-style reminiscent of wines from 1852 when Zin first arrived in California. The grapes were partially-crushed, partially whole-cluster, and fermented in a closed tank where there was some carbonic fermentation. This created an enjoyable and quaffable Zinfandel that has a beautiful floral quality. It also shows savory notes of violet, mountain sage, and yerba buena. Drink it at a cooler temperature than you might normally drink red wine, even a little chilled on a warm day.

Color is dark purple, with complex aromas of cedar, tobacco, and asian spice box. The fruit is blackberry/cassis/olive with a pleasant St. Julien-like texture, mineral-infused flavors, and sappiness. The wine has good balance, intensity, a plush texture, and length. It is a youngster now and slow to open, which bodes well for age ability. We think this is the best Cabernet Sauvignon we have made from this site to date.
Pinot Noir in the Sierra Foothills? This cool mountain vineyard was grafted in 2007 to 5 different clones of pinot that produce lovely fruit for Bill's elegant pinot noir. Saver this wine with salmon, coq au vin, or Thanksgiving turkey.
This is not a simple, over-wooded, high-alcohol/over-the-top wine, that you often find from the Foothill region. It shows a reflection of place, it is suited for the table, and is fun to drink. This is one of our most popular wines in the tasting room at the winery. Try it with most tomato preparations. It is great with pork, lamb, and rabbit.
