This hand-crafted reserve-styled Barbera is made from grapes grown on hillsides on the Cooper Ranch in the Shenandoah Valley, California appellation of Amador County.  It is a Piedmontese variety that thrives in the climate and terroir of this New World setting.

The Rinaldi Vineyard in Fiddletown is one of the oldest in the state, dating back to 1866. The EASTON Fiddletown Zinfandel, Old Vine is always 100% Zinfandel from the Rinaldi Vineyard. We approach making the wine from this vineyard in much the same way a good winemaker would approach a grand cru vineyard in Burgundy. We want to reveal what the fruit has to offer each year in all of its purity, not obscure it.

These are 100-plus year-old vines on a decomposed granite bench over-looking the Shenandoah Valley sloping from North to South. The vineyard is old, rugged, and in decline, but still produces fruit with wonderful character. Farmed traditionally with cross-discing, dry farming, and hand-harvesting. Amador’s annual rainfall is generally 28-32” a year on long-term average.

The wines are spicy, textural, mineral, and captivating.

This is the favorite Barbera in the Tasting Room right now. This barbera is very European in style, with great balance and aromatics. The Monarch Mine Vineyard overlooks the precipitous American River canyon at 2,400 feet and brings wonderful minerality to the wine. Pair this one with tomato bruschetta,  Ossobuco, or a Florentine-style rib eye this holiday season.

Our delicious and aromatic EASTON Campo de Granito from the Valley’s Edge Vineyard is estate-grown in a "granite field” at the Northeast edge of the Shenandoah Valley appellation. Made from the Iberian varietals Touriga Nacional and Souzão (Sezão), this wine has great color and balance, and will drink well when young. Only 100 cases produced.
